Regulators and ICT, under debate during IIC Regulation Week

The adaptation of media regulators to information and communication technology innovations was the focus of discussion at the International Institute of Communications Regulators Forum, held in Ottawa on November 1 and 2, 2022.

The workshop, which brought together representatives from the French-language networks of media and telecommunications regulators, examined the challenges and opportunities of ICTs generating more and more data “which can be difficult to manage by the national regulatory authorities,” notice a REFRAM statement.

The participant launched, also, an appeal to develop cooperation with the academic research community to strengthen media authorities analyzing  capacities “in particular in a legal environment protecting personal data”, explains the same source, citing the European Union’s experience with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR) and the Digital Services Regulations (DSA).
