After working as a professional journalist for 15 years, François Demers became a professor/researcher in the Department of Information and Communication at Laval University in 1980, where he taught until 2020. He is currently an associate professor in this department and interim director of the Chair of Science Journalism. Doctor in political science, his thesis focused on the emergence of new daily newspapers in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, during the NAFTA debate. He has published books, scholarly articles and book chapters at an average rate of two per year, more than 90 to date. He was Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 1987 to 1996 and Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Arts from 2003 to 2005.
