Belgium: A new code of conduct to fight sexist and stereotycal advertising
A new Code of conduct was recently adopted, by the broadcasting authority for French speaking Belgium (CSA), in order to fight sexist and stéreotycal advertising.
This initiative is part of the 2020-2024 implementation of the Women’s Rights Plan in Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
The code is addressed to publishers offline or online audiovisual media (SMA) but also to advertisers, academics and the components of civil society.
The CSA will produce a practical guide for journalists and communicators. This Code will help them particularly in producing commercial advertising contents intended for minor and to avoid, in particular, to represent them in “risk” behaviors to be imitated or can harm their physical, moral or mental well-being, such as the injunctions to deprive themselves of food.
